Laminate Money

Lamination is a fascinating concept to me.

Wherever you are reading this, whether in North Dakota, Washington, Florida, Germany, really, anyplace on planet earth, you are physically in a place where lamination has taken place.

Over time, things are formed, whether our bodies, a farm field, or a sky scraper, layer by layer.

Just think about it.

Heck, my desk I am writing this was built by gluing pieces of Ash wood together.

And it’s this process of layering that strength is created.

And it’s this process of layering where recovery can take place as well.

Take a tree for example, if you cut it down and look at the growth rings, you can clearly look back in time and see years where rain was plentiful and years when there was not enough.

It takes time, but layer by layer, year by year, the tree grows, it becomes strong, tall and prosperous.

This happens in our financial lives as well. Whether you know it or not, you are constantly making decisions about your future with how you live, spend, and save today.

The thesis of laminate money is this: there will be hard times in life, there will be good times, there will be economic disaster, there will times of prosperity, there will be a little bit of everything.

And in every situation, one should always remember and commit to the next layer.

Have an unexpected bill that is defeating? Pay it, move on, and commit to recovering.

Great market returns? Enjoy them, rebalance, and stay humble.

Recession coming? Understand, prepare, and stay nimble.

If there is another day, there is another opportunity to create a stronger financial layer.

Why are so many people stressed about money?

Why are so many people behind?

Mainly, apathy. They aren’t committed to the process of creating a sustainable, futureproof financial life.

They aren’t committed to the process of lamination.

I can hear you say, some people are born into a hopeless future and they don’t even know it.

That is true, but we all have choices, and we need to understand we have the freedom to choose a better way.

I want everyone that comes in contact with Fjell to understand that bad things happen, so do good things, but there is always another layer to lay. And we need to not stop improving, seeking and growing stronger.

The goal is sustained returns over decades.

Not flash in the pan, unsustainable returns.

If we’ve learned anything from nature, it’s that the most beautiful, natural features take millennia to form.

Slow, steady, beautiful, and unshakeable.

That is laminate money.
